Coco Chip

Category: Cocopeat

Coco chips are a major by-product of extracting coir fiber from coconut husks. Previously, bark was the most popular growing medium but had issues such as high cost and susceptibility to fungal diseases. Although it was never proven that fungal diseases from bark spread to plants, safety concerns reduced its usage. In contrast, husk chips are much cheaper and completely safe, as they do not promote fungal or microbial growth. Husk chips are ideal as a growing medium for germinating seeds, providing the moisture and nutrients required for optimal growth.

Coconut husks are cut into random-sized pieces, known as coco chips, and sorted into three sizes: small (6mm to 13mm), medium (13mm to 25mm), and large (25mm to 50mm). These chips can replace bark-based growing mediums for orchids and are used in cut flower production facilities. They are easy to loosen and process, enhancing the air-filled porosity and capillary action in the substrate. Generally obtained in larger chunks and then cut into smaller pieces, we sell husk chips in three sizes: 10 mm, 10-15 mm, and 15-20 mm, each suited for various applications in orchid and anthurium nurseries. The husk chips can be purchased in bales, which expand to 3 cubic feet, or in brick form, yielding about 7-8 litres when expanded. We also offer customization to meet specific customer requirements.
